Tamasha gets off to a good start
After a dull week at the box-office, it’s time for Imtiaz Ali’s magic to work with the Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone starrer, Tamasha.
Released in 2150 screens, with an overseas release on Thursday, the film took a much better opening than expected, with an average of 40 per cent occupancies in the early shows. Occupancies in northern sectors went as high as 50 per cent and even the South zones responded well with 40 per cent occupancies in the early shows. Cities in the central zone notched a number of up to 45 per cent. If the trend holds up, the film has a chance to earn up to Rs 11 crore in the first day. With a mixed bag of reviews coming in and a lukewarm response to the music, we will have to wait and watch.
As far as the two-week old Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is concerned, the glorious opening week figures didn’t hold through the last week. After a drastic drop, the figures continue to fall with Rs 2.70 crore in earnings on Monday and Tuesday, Rs 2.90 crore on Wednesday and Rs 2.01 crore on Thursday. With total domestic earnings at Rs 203.53 crore thus far and international earnings at Rs 86.57 crore, the film has amassed a total of Rs 290.10 crore worldwide. But the domestic figures, judging from current trends, show no signs of betterment and the lifetime earnings may close at Rs 215 crore.
